When you have to make your VAT settings in Shopify and in the App, it is important to keep several threads in your head at the same time. In addition, the conditions are different for different customers, so making a general guide for all variants can be difficult. But we will try and if the images and settings do not match what it looks like in your particular online store, you can get back to us with questions and screenshots from your store.
To think about current general VAT settings in Shopify
It is important to understand that Appen för Bokföring does not itself make any calculations or calculate what the VAT should be for different scenarios. The app posts what Shopify specified in its documents to the account that you, the customer, specified in your configuration. All VAT logic is therefore in Shopify and it is there that you have to set up how you want it to work.
Enter your VAT number in Shopify 1
Note that there are several places where you as a customer will be asked to enter your VAT number
The one place it should be entered is under Invoicing, but this does NOT mean what you as a customer have charged your customers, but here it is only about whether you as a customer of Shopify want to pay for their licenses with or without VAT. That is, if you enter a VAT number here, Shopify will NOT charge VAT on its fees to you.
Since admin is relatively equal, it is easy to think that you have already entered your VAT number so that VAT is correctly reported on your customers' orders, but this is not the case. So follow the guide below:
Enter your VAT number in Shopify 2
If you as a company are VAT registered and have passed the limit for when you have the right to charge VAT to your customers, you must enter this in Shopify's admin 1.
First you must enter on the online store's settings.
2. Then open settings for the "Taxes and customs duties" section
Here we only focus on the EU region, which includes Sweden.
3. In our example below, it is a Swedish company that is VAT registered but does not have sales over €10,000 EUR in sales to other EU countries. Shopify calls this "Exception for micro-enterprises" and here you must enter your VAT number according to the model SE 9999999999 01
4. If you do NOT make these settings in Shopify, your order will NOT specify the VAT that you must report and as the App then WILL NOT book correctly as according to Shopify there should not be VAT on the order.
5. But if you enter your VAT number in Shopify under "Taxes and customs duties", the order will be correct based on where the customer & delivery is located, regardless of whether it is in Sweden, in the EU or outside the EU.
